About our Farm
Baker Creek Lavender Farm is a small farm operated as a family business by Scott and Mary. The farm is located within the Hobby Horse Acres Ranch which is located 25 miles Northwest of St. George, UT on SR-18 by Baker Dam Reservoir.
The 250-acre Hobby Horse Acres Ranch was established by Scott's Grandfather Andy Pace. Andy farmed the land and Scott's Father, Woody Sproul, raised cattle on the land. The farming legacy will now continue with lavender being cultivated.
Our love of lavender, essential oils and products made with essential oil led us to this path. We have visited many lavender farms throughout the past years mainly in California, Colorado and Michigan. We began our research and education regarding the growing, distillation and production of lavender in 2015.
In 2017 we decided to put our dream into motion and we worked feverishly throughout the summer and winter of 2018-2019 preparing our first 1/4 acre to plant (Field 1). Our first 680 baby lavenders were planted on May 5, 2018. The second field (Field 2) we planted another 650 plants in May 5, 2019. Our third field (Field 3) we planted another 500 plants on May 9, 2020 all with the help of wonderful friends and family.
The Lavender do extremely well in our unique "micro" climate and soil along Baker Creek (Santa Clara River), the 2019 bloom season and harvest of Field 1 was an unexpected and a blessing! The 2020 bloom was amazing and we even opened the farm to visitors for the first time, during the bloom seasons!
We now have Pink and white Lavender flowers along with the purples, as well as organic White Sage, Garden Sage, Clary Sage, Lemon Thyme, Orange Thyme, Sweet basil, Greek Oregano, Mint, Peppermint, Spearmint, Yerba Santa
A lot is always happening at Baker Creek Lavender Farm!
Field 1, (est. 2018) we have planted 5 cultivars, Maillette, Wyckoff, Impress Purple, Super and True Grosso.
Field 2, (est. 2019) we have planted 7 cultivars, Hidcote Pink, Irene Doyle, Miss Katherine, Royal Velvet, Folgate, Amethyst and Hidcote Giant.
Field 3, (est. 2020) we have planted 6 cultivars, Melissa, Royal Velvet, New Zealand Blue, Edelweiss, Gros Blu, and Amethyst.
Field 4, (est. 2021) we have planted 4 cultivars, Munstead, Impress Purple, Wyckoff, Miss Katherine
We started with a completely barren piece of dirt, no electricity, no irrigation, nothing but wild sage brush all over.
Scott is the backbone of all the hard work. From digging the electric and irrigation line ditches and laying all the pipe to turning the field over, laying the weed block and installing the drip system.
We are excited to watch the plants grow and to keep developing the farm, we appreciate everyone that has helped and have watched are farm grow.
Love Mary & Scott
